A letter from Doug Clark

Taylor Hall, left, and Doug Clark received both their Lance Sijan Award plaques in Memphis and a rousing ovation from all the managers and dealers attending the meeting.
Here’s my story about my quest for the Lance Sijan Award and why I decided to earn it.
When we were in Tan-Tar-A, I was surprised to see that only six people were called up front who had earned the Lance Sijan Award. They announced that Don Bube (of Boston Team Eagle) was the newest member. I found out later from Vernie Boren that there are actually more people that have earned it but they just were not present at the time.
I set the goal to achieve it for one reason: I wanted to prove to myself, my family and Signtronix that I could DO IT.
I met up with Vernie after the meeting and found out what the requirements were. I contemplated the task that night and analyzed what it would take to achieve this goal if I chose to go for it. I knew that in order to go for it, I would need to be in the field ALL DAY – EVERY DAY for a month.
I prayed about my goals and I talked about them with my wife, Jennifer. If this was going to happen, my family had to be supportive and believe in the goals. I told my divisional manager Ray Clark and Vernie Boren my goals, and then I committed my goals to my heavenly Father.
I can honestly tell you that I was blessed throughout the month. My only focus was to get lite-ups. It did not matter to me who wanted to look as long as they looked. The more I showed, the more I sold. I wrote up 15 orders in the 23 days with an average volume of 3,849.83. Some nights lasted until after 10 p.m. I did not have too many obstacles through the month.
Every morning I would review my goals. I would determine where I was and what I needed to achieve the goal. I feel that resetting and re-committing to the goal each day kept me focused. You can not know where you are headed if you do not know where you are.
I would say that the most important concept I learned during this time was that if I focused on activity (lite-ups), the rest would happen.
Lastly, as Signtronix President Tom Johnson would say, “You can’t expect to earn your financial freedom by cheering from the sidelines. You have to get in the game and work your heart out. It is really up to you.”
I want to thank my heavenly Father for his blessings. With him, all things are possible. I also want to thank my wife Jennifer and my two boys Christian and Jacob for their support and Ray Clark for his constant phone calls and motivation out in the field.
Sincerely,
Doug Clark
