What does the term “Team Player” mean? There are many different ways to explain its meaning. Most of us get it but some people exemplify its meaning. In this case Boston Team Eagle RM Steve Ingemi is talking about Steel City Eagles DM Brad Whistler. Steve said, “Let me explain what I mean. Last week being more than somewhat frustrated with my new iPad and its functionality (really frustrated with myself), I called on the Big Gun for help – Brad “I-Pad Genius” Whistler. I explained the problems I was having, and he immediately attempted to help. I told him that would not work because I am a complete “Mamaluke” when it comes to technology, and I would like to come down and visit him for a little tutoring. Brad, without hesitation, said “Come on down”. Boston to Harrisburg is about a 7 hour drive. We made a plan and I was off. A stop for a day’s work in Danbury Connecticut resulted in a happy new customer. Then it was a beeline to Brad’s. Brad, very graciously, spent the afternoon and into the night with me. I learned in a few hours from him what I could not learn in three months on my own! Brad is very patient which makes him an excellent teacher.”
There are several lessons to be learned from this trip. 1. None of us are obligated to each other, but a good deed was done by a good man with a good heart. 2. A couple of people told Brad that I was nuts to drive all that way just for the iPad. They could be right, but I don’t think so. What is education worth to you? Education is a continuous journey, not a destination. The problem today is most people are not willing to do what it takes to succeed, not willing to study and learn. 3. I had an opportunity to get to know Brad much better. We all need to spend time with people to really get to know them. I met Brad’s youngest son Jordan, what a wonderful kid. He has an older brother who just started boot camp with the Marines last week. God bless and protect him. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Brad is and should be proud of them, and I’m proud to call Brad my friend. Thank you for your help friend.
Just one last note and that’s thanks to Chris Lam for opening my thinking to all the new technology available that will keep me and anyone else willing to embrace it moving forward with Signtronix and the world, not being left behind.
